In the chaos of depression, when the country was suffering from financial and economic crisis, the president Franklin D. Roosevelt has introduced a program known as WPA (Works Progress Administration). This new deal project includes Public work progress, financial reforms and regulations. Following the program, The book women thrive under the Pack Horse Library Project in America, providing books to rural communities of Appalachia Region, mostly in Kentucky. The Great Depression starting back from october 29, 1929, when the stock market has crashed, wiping out millions of investors and their money and shacking millions of consumer for the time being, the day also referred to as Black Tuesday. Following the crash many banks failed as they couldn't recover loans. This led to decrease in demand and rise in unemployment. The Great Depression has served a long term for a decade from 1929 to 1939, to the economy of world.

America also faces many global problems as International trade declined due to tariffs and trade barriers. The European economies was still recovering from World War 1, and the U.S. economic problems quickly spread across the globe. The Impacts were severe than estimated, Unemployment rates soared, reaching about 25% in U.S.. The economic hardship led to a dramatic increase in poverty, with many families struggling to afford basic necessities. The Great Depression affected economies worldwide, leading to international trade collapse and financial crisis in many countries.

And in this cluster of Depression, the president of America at that time Franklin D. Roosevelt, sown many programs and project in the administration of America, cultivating programs like The New Deal Program, Banking Reforms, Economic stimulus, etc. Following these huge programs, The New Deal Program gave birth to Pack Horse Library Project in Appalachia Region. This new deal program includes Public Work Projects, Financial Reforms, and regulations. It was aimed at providing jobs and stimulate the economy.

Imagine a scenario, it was a time of great depression and you are struggling with financial crisis, the labours in the village were all unemployed, all have lost faith, when you heard horses neighing in distant, and there were women sat on horseback carrying a satchel full of books. And they provides you books to study, to read it. It was a weekly scenario of rural areas of Kentucky. 

The pack horse library project initiated in 1935 to deliver books in remote and impoverished areas of Appalachia Region by Women on horses. They were famous as Book Women in those areas, as they travelled all the way to different regions carrying book collected from library on horses. This shows the ingenuity of those book women that travelled miles on those rugged terrain, lack of proper roads, and providing their precious times to bring books to those backward regions, to determine them to read.

The book women marked the essentiality of reading and importance of literacy in the forgotten history of world, they have convinced many of those peoples to read and cultivate moralities in their life, the project primarily aimed to educate them and provide them basic necessities to it. The Pack Horse Project aimes on Bringing books to those who never have the privilege to it in their life and to find themselves a good job or work based on their education. It is clear that the Book Women have left an mark that will never fade away from the world, and only influence it to thrive as always and to read and learn without any extent. The Project have provided the wealth of knowledge and morality to people amidst the great depression.
